I wish to thank all my dear clients and students for their steadfast commitment to healing themselves. This is not easy work sometimes and you deserve to be proud as you have become increasingly more brave to face those distressed tender parts of you from which we all tend to hide. I hope your holiday season was grand and enjoyable and you were able to celebrate with your friends and family in only the most fun filled ways.

I have heard many people saying they were “done with 2016” and looking forward to a new beginning, a fresh start. A fresh start always begins with ourselves.  Historically people have looked at the new year as a time to take a step in a new direction, make some new choices such as weight loss or improvement of some area of our life. Winter is a great time to go within and do some self-assessment.  Have I been down this path before?  Why am I here again?  Why did it fail the last time? What can I do to prevent myself from failing this time?  These questions and many others can help us begin to take a deeper look at ourselves, not to criticize or judge ourselves but to lovingly look beyond the failure we had on the subject and see it only as a piece of information meant to gently guide us to a slightly different approach.

If 2016 wasn’t “good” for you, then that feeling is pointing you toward looking at why it wasn’t.  Changing yourself is the first step toward making any day, or any year, simply, “a year”; not good or bad.  If we learn to live our experiences in life, as the Buddha taught, “there are no good or bad experiences, just experiences.” Then we are free and at ease regardless of what we have on our plate to deal with.

Placing a judgment upon our experiences is something we learn very early in life.  Our parents coming home from work and talking about how they “had a bad day”, is our first exposure to this kind of thought and eventual behavioral pattern.  If, as many before us have learned, we create our reality then whether or not the day or week or month or year is bad is a matter of why it was bad and what we can learn about ourselves in an effort to improve our lives to the point where a bad or good experience becomes “just an experience to learn from”.

I love journaling.  This is a perfect thing to journal about. Stream of consciousness kicks in and you get answers you would have otherwise not have thought of sitting and conversing with someone about the “whys” of your life.  It is one way to get those well hidden subconscious insights up and out into your conscious mind to put into practical use.  When we ask ourselves “Why?” the answers are within us; it is just a question of access.

So before you embark upon that New Year’s Resolution that you may have tried before, buy yourself a new notebook, plain or pretty and after the coffee or tea one morning, after the party of the holiday is over, allow your subconscious to talk you.  Take out that pretty new pen and notebook and let the answers flow from within you.  You will be happily surprised at what the deeper you has to tell you!

I wish for all of you this year is that you are able to begin to answer your own questions by connecting some method that allows you to hear yourself in a way you never have.  Much love and light to all my dear clients and students in 2017!
